SIBU: A man from the Chief Government Security Office of the Prime Minister¡¦s Department was killed while he and two colleagues were accompanying Education Department officers to deliver the UPSR test papers to Bintulu yesterday.
The Security Department’s car and that of the Education Department were involved in a chain collision at Mile 10, Tungku Abdul Rahman Road after a car driven by a timber camp worker got into their path.
The car of camp worker Ting went out of control, crashing into the road divider before crossing over to the other lane to ram the security officers’ car, then the Education Department¡¦s car behind it. It landed on its side in front of the Education Department’s car.
Ting was trapped after his car flipped over and landed on its roof.
Kushaini Sulong, 39, driving the Security Department’s car was killed instantly.
The impact from the collision dislodged the roof from the car, and the deceased’s face was disfigured.
His colleague Mohd Khairul Sharizan Hami, 27, was thrown out from the car while another colleague Ranno Mainor, 29, was trapped in the car with Kushaini.
Ranno suffered head and chest injuries and was wheeled into Sibu Hospital’s ICU.
Mohd Khairul suffered head injuries and was bleeding from his right ear while Ting had multiple injuries. Both were hospitalised.
The three education staff – two ladies and their driver – escaped unhurt. They were still in a state of shock when police arrived.
An unidentified lorry driver passing by told a reporter he saw Ting’s car ¡§swaying and hopping before it crashed into the road divider and got over to the other side of the road.
One of the two women education staff told reporters she saw a car coming their way, followed by a loud bang.
Police officers in another car accompanying the staff of the Security Office and Education Department to Bintulu escaped unhurt.
Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail confirmed that Kusaini was killed in the accident.
He also confirmed the chain collisions which his traffic police officers were investigating.
