KAPIT: Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Billy Abit Joo visited SMK Bakun at Sungai Asap on Sunday to hand out school aid to more than 1,000 students of the school.

The function held at the school hall was attended by the heads of government departments, community leaders, teachers, students and their parents.

Billy described the present Barisan Nasional government as the ‘most caring government’ since independence 50 years ago.

“You see the caring government policy introducing assistance schemes to benefit the rakyat, especially the lower income group. There’s presentation of ‘Bantuan Khas Persekolahan RM100 2013’ to students from Primary 1 to Form 5. This cash aid was handed out at the beginning of the year to help lessen parents’ burden from stationery and school necessities,” he said.

“The government shared the country’s success with the rakyat through many bantuan: BRIM2 RM100, Bantuan Sekolah RM100, etc,” he said.

“Under the Najib administration, MPs are empowered to serve as the mouthpiece of the rakyat in bringing their problem to the relevant authority for immediate attention. If you’ve problem, inform the MP and we’ll try our best to assist,” Billy said.

He praised early pioneer teachers serving in remote rural schools like Long Busang, Nanga Antaroh and Tunoh for their dedication and commitment to educate the young.

“I salute especially those swerving in the most remote interior of Sarawak. Hulu Rajang constituency is the largest as big as Pahang but the living conditions are tough and challenging due to lack of basic facilities. The policy of the government is to reach out to people – where there are children, schools are built to educate them,” he said.

Billy attributed his own success to his teachers. “If not for them, I wouldn’t be standing before you today,” he said.

He said Malaysia’s success was facilitated by teachers, especially those who taught in rural areas, where many of our leaders come from. He also acknowledged parents for their role in bringing up children.
